What's with the name?
When a first grader called Mr. Worley, "Mister Twirly," he started to correct her. But no, Ernest Worley... Ernis Twirly... that is his name. Twirly Fun Times captures the spirit we have here of making learning fun.
Why Elephant?
"Elephant" is the catchy and potent kids song that started Twirly Fun Times. People often ask what was the inspiration behind the song - why Elephant?
As a fourth grader, my music teacher was Mrs. Gallean. She led an ice-breaker game that involved rhythmic clapping and an introduction along the lines of, "👏My name is 👏Ernis, and 👏I like 👏elephants!" giving their first name and an animal that began with the same letter.
30 years later, Ernest is still clapping and singing about them. The song Elephant is also played in the key of E major!
Twirly Fun Times promotes social emotional learning, including self-love and self-esteem. These themes are present in "Elephant" for all listeners to internalize.
